The incarnation is essential to understanding Christology. Many would argue that Christology is essential to every other Christian doctrine. How does Christology relate to the church and to missions?
One answer that has gained popularity since the advent of contextualization is via the incarnation. Missionaries incarnate Christ to the context in which they serve. Here is where the ambiguity begins. Everybody uses the incarnation as their model and end up with different meanings. See Bosch, Kraft, Hesselgrave/Kostenberger, Heibert, Frost and Hirsch.
This is an introductory post to an analysis of Hesselgrave's Chapter in "Paradigms" on Incarnationalism vs Representationalism.
